Recovery after exercising is instrumental as it allows the body to repair and strengthen itself, improving future performances, building muscle, and reducing the risk of injuries. Adequate recovery can be aided with supplementation, helping you to maximise your effort throughout every training session.

Many of our recovery supplements are protein powders. Protein is essential for recovery post exercise; it provides the amino acids necessary for repairing and rebuilding muscle tissues that are damaged during intense physical activities. The damage caused to muscles during exercise are called ‘microtears’. Consuming protein helps to repair these microtears, facilitating muscle growth.

Whey Protein Powder

Whey Protein is a type of protein that is derived from milk. Milk contains two primary types of protein, namely whey protein and casein. Whey protein is a fast digesting protein which is separated from the liquid part of milk (known as whey) and derived into whey protein powder. The fast acting nature of whey protein makes it ideal to be taken post workout.

Whey Protein contains all 9 essential amino acids. Essential amino acids are those which the body cannot produce by itself and so must be absorbed through diet. Essential amino acids are vital for the body’s ability to build muscle, repair tissue and synthesise hormones.

Our Whey Protein Powder contains 24g of protein per serving.

L-Glutamine

L-Glutamine is a nonessential amino acid that is beneficial for post workout recovery. It is mostly known for its ability to help speed up musclular recovery and reduce muscle soreness after intense exercise. This may help you recover better between workouts, allowing you to train with higher volume and intensity.

L-Glutamine also helps prevent the breakdown of muscle tissues, protecting against the body’s potential to use muscle as an energy source. This protective measure is complemented by its role in cell volumisation. L-Glutamine promotes and maintains cell hydration, which is instrumental for optimising muscle function and recovery. These benefits collectively make L-Glutamine an excellent supplement for post workout recovery.

Plant Protein

Our Plant Protein Powder is a vegan protein powder made up from pea protein isolate, brown rice protein isolate and faba bean protein concentrate.

Most isolated vegan protein powders on their own do not contain the full essential amino acid profile to make them a ‘complete’ protein source. Our unique plant protein powder blend contains pea, brown rice and faba bean proteins, providing the full spectrum of essential amino acids, making it a complete protein source.

Our Plant Protein Powder delivers 24g of plant based protein per serving, with 3.2g of fibre and just 0.7g of carbohydrates and 2.6g of fat.

Omega 3 Fish Oil

Also in our collection of recovery supplements is our Omega 3 Fish Oil, which provides 2000mg of fish oil per serving. Omega 3 is an essential fatty acid that your body cannot produce on its own, meaning that it must be taken in through diet. Omega 3 Fish Oil contains both eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) which can be particularly beneficial for your body.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the role of protein in recovery?

Protein provides amino acids which are needed to repair and rebuild muscle tissues damaged during exercise, known as microtears. This process helps to facilitate muscle growth and improve exercise performance in future workouts.

Why do we recommend whey protein for after workouts?

Whey protein is a complete and fast digesting protein which quickly provides essential amino acids to muscles after a workout, making it ideal for post workout. It helps repair the muscle's microtears effectively and supports muscle growth the best due to its complete amino acid profile.

How does L-Glutamine support recovery from intense exercise?

L-Glutamine, a nonessential amino acid, helps to speed up the recovery of your muscles. It also may reduce soreness, and prevent muscle tissue breakdown. It may aid in maintaining cell hydration, which is crucial for optimising muscle function and recovery.

What makes our Plant Protein Powder a good option for vegans?

Our Plant Protein Powder is a complete protein source combining pea, brown rice, and faba bean proteins, providing all essential amino acids required for effective recovery. This makes it an excellent alternative for those following a vegan diet, as many plant protein alternatives do not provide all the essential amino acids.

What are the benefits of Omega 3 Fish Oil for recovery?

Omega 3 Fish Oil contains essential fatty acids (EPA and DHA) that the body cannot produce on its own. These fatty acids are beneficial for potentially reducing inflammation whilst you recover, as well as supporting cardiovascular health.
